Brinell hardness test

A method of measuring the hardness of a material by measuring the area of indentation produced by a hard steel ball under standard conditions of loading. Expressed as either Brinell hardness number (BHN) or, preferably, BH following the number, which is the quotient of the load on the ball in kilogramforce divided by the area of indentation in square millimeters.
