About BYD
BYD Auto (simplified Chinese: 比亚迪汽车; Pinyin: Bǐyàdí Qìchē) is a Chinese automobile manufacturer based in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, People's Republic of China. The firm was founded in 2003 and it is a part of the BYD Company Limited. The BYD company, established in 1995, makes 65% of the world’s nickel-cadmium batteries and 30% of the world's lithium-ion mobile phone batteries. Based on this background, BYD Auto has ambitious plans for hybrid and electric automobiles.
BYD Auto's current English tagline or slogan is Build Your Dreams.
History
The firm was created when BYD bought the bankrupted government auto maker Qinchuan and acquired one of the tightly controlled permissions to produce automobiles in China. This method of permit acquiring is called "buy a shell", and has since been banned.
Models
With the acquisition of Qingchuan, BYD Auto also acquired one model, called Flyer. As of 2007, the Flyer sells less than 100 units per month.
