Quantum mechanics
A generally accepted theory replacing classical mechanics for microscopic phenomena. Quantum mechanics also gives results consistent with classical mechanics for macroscopic phenomena. Two equivalent formalisms have been developed: matrix mechanics (developed by W. Heisenberg) and wave mechanics (developed by E. Schrödinger). The theory accounts for a very wide range of physical phenomena. See
